Sony continued the Jak and Daxter series this week with the release of Jak and Daxter: The Lost Frontier. First revealed to the world at this year's E3, Sony surprised fans of the series by releasing the game only for the PlayStation 2 and the PSP, rather than for the PS3 as might be expected.

New to the series in this installment is a focus on flight gameplay, while all the previous games had been primarily platforming. Daxter is also getting his own Dark Eco form, like Jak's from Jak II and Jak 3, and the different colors of Eco not seen since the original game have returned in lieu of Jak's own light and dark forms.

This is the first release in a while for the series, which saw its last installment in Daxter on the PSP three years ago, while the last main game in the series, Jak 3, came out five years ago. Considering its popularity during the PS2 era, it seems strange that Sony would take so long coming out with another installment, but the series' popularity on the PS2 might be one reason it's getting a release for that system.

Reviews have been mixed for the new release, but mostly positive, with reviewers praising the high quality graphics, but criticizing the pacing, and the seemingly ever-present camera troubles that somehow still plague 3D games.
