Mayor Dixon's spring cleanup is on Saturday. The mayor will be giving a speech in Reservoir Hill where I live. A few weeks ago my block of Linden Avenue was supposed to get its street repaved. The repaving was mysteriously delayed until today. I assume this delay was created because the Mayor wants to point out some current "orange cone" activity in Reservoir Hill during her speech. Nice PR stunt.
While the Mayor talks about planting trees, paving, and green activities, just around the corner the 2200 and 2300 blocks of Callow Avenue will sit in disrepair alost 5 years after HRS development (lead by Dean Harrison) was awarded the contract to turn 15 empty city owned houses into owner-occupied houses. The Mayor really needs to address why after all this time the 2200 and 2300 blocks of Callow still look like a war zone, why the city has not taken back the houses from the developer who has not completed (hardly started) the project in the allotted time period, and why this under-qualified developer was selected in the first place and allowed to be part of the delayed Druid Hill Lake Drive RFP also. None of this will be addressed. Real issues like $40million suddenly found get swept under the rug in this city. Plant some trees and forget about the real world.
