Bottle club in the basement of the Belvedere has its registration revoked

November 13, 10:54 PM

The Suite Ultralounge is a club located in the basement of the Belvedere Hotel in Mount Vernon. In October there was a murder right outside of it. At a bottle club you have to bring your own liquor. People living in and around the Belvedere came out in force to demand the revocation of the club's bottle club registration. Councilman Bill Cole testified that the club is a nuisance and Stephanie Rawlings-Blake sent in a letter supporting the community members. The liquor board ruled in favor of the neighbors. If there is no appeal (and they will try to appeal) then you will not be able to bring liquor to the Suite Ultralounge anymore and it will be unable to conduct business.

Correction: I typed this story up very quickly. 3 People were shot, all of them survived. Sorry for the mistake.

To Win a Baltimore Council Seat it Helps to Have a Known Name or Family Member

August 7, 11:54 PM
Baltimore voters love to elect the same names over and over again. If they are familiar with a name they seem to always select it in the voting booth. Currently on Baltimore City Council there are nine individuals (out of fifteen council members) who... Read More

Busy Weekend Ahead

Lots of events this weekend. Earlier today I ran from Charles Village to Mount Vernon and passed through the expanded Artscape. North Avenue has not looked that alive (in a good way) in years. I usually see so few people on the streets and today I saw... Read More

Wall Street Journal Opinion Piece Says To Lower Property Taxes

July 6, 11:53 PM
I just read this piece in the Wall Street Journal.  It uses some harsh words to describe Baltimore but it does make some good points.  I liked this quote: "True enough, the ability to hand out subsidies gives officials great power. But... Read More
