Choosing the right wedding hair style goes beyond simply picking out a photo in a magazine. The hair is as much a part of the outfit as all the other accessories. The overall appearance of the bride from head to toe should look coordinated. This means that the first step to choosing the perfect hair do is to already have the wedding gown in mind. The silhouette and neckline of the gown as well as the overall theme of the wedding will play a big role in deciding which hair style will best compliment it.

Brides who plan to wear simple sheath dresses at an outdoor or destination wedding can get away with leaving their hair down in sultry waves, or with a half up do. A simple dress worn at a simple ceremony should be matched with equally simple yet stylish hair. If the hair is overdone to the point that it draws attention away from the gown or the brides face than it has completely defeated it’s purpose. Ball gowns and formal occasions go well with elegant up dos.

Gowns with high necklines, ruffles, halters or busy detailing around the neck will go best with hair that is swept away from the neck so that the hair and dress are not in competition. The choice of hair style goes hand in hand with the choice of veil and hair pieces such tiaras, combs and clips. Ultimately the amount of hair the bride already has to begin with, her face shape, bone structure and personal preferences are all important factors that need to be taken into consideration. Ivanka Trump shunned the traditional up do at her wedding last month and had her hair down in classic waves to match her Grace Kelly inspired gown.
