With summer officially over and winter drawing near, individuals north of the Mason- Dixon line are already thinking about and planning for their winter vacations. And a hot spot where you're able to ditch your earmuffs in lieu of some snorkel gear is San Diego, California. Located in the southwest corner of California and 20 miles north of the Mexico border, California's second largest city is one of the U.S.' most popular vacation destinations. And rightfully so, as San Diego offers a variety of attractions from museums to Sea World, the world class San Diego Zoo, red trolley day trips to Tijuana, Mexico, historic Balboa Park (free admission!) and of course- the beautiful beaches.

San Diego enjoys the southern California warmth all year round with an average temperature of 70° F. Downtown San Diego is located on San Diego Bay, and is surrounded by canyons and parklands. The valleys and natural landscaping allows San Diego to have some of the most challenging and breathtaking hikes in the region. Torrey Pines State Natural Reserve is one of the most popular hikes for both the amateur and experienced alike. Or if you'd like to enjoy the peace and beauty of natural surroundings with family and friends, Torrey Pines offers Family Discovery Days every first Saturday of each month.  And best of all- it's absolutely free!  San Diego's North County  is also home to some of the finest vineyards in the western region.  Daily tours and tastings are always available, and the award- winning wineries of Temecula are some fan favorites.  For those eager to stick their toes in the sand, and with miles of beautiful beaches along the coast, it's hard to pick a favorite. But many travelers say taking the ferry to scenic Coronado Island for the beach, golf course and backdrop of gorgeous mansions is the trip to take. At only $5 each way for the ferry ticket, it's an inexpensive way to spend the day!  The real audacious may decide to provide their own means of transportation by renting a sail boat, jet ski or kayak for the day, and enjoy the sweeping views of the azure San Diego skyline on their own.

San Diego also has thousands of restaurants ranging from fine dining to fast food with international influences from south of the border. From harbor dinner cruises to local bistros and of course, the finest sea food around, click here to find some incredible restaurant discounts for all of the above mentioned!  And whether you'd like to stay in a charming beachfront bungalow, a whimsical resort by the sea, or right outside of Sea World, check out the varying coupons and selections today.  So get out of the cold and enjoy the ocean beaches, bayside parks and everything else that San Diego has to offer.  It truly is a crowned jewel of the west!
