Make a video and help the hungry this Thanksgiving via YouTube

Many people, especially around the holidays, look for interesting ways to volunteer their time.

Aspiring filmmakers and video enthusiasts, here's your chance to give back to the community and help fight hunger right here at home.. just in time for Thanksgiving.

David Arquette, a spokesperson for YouTube's Video Volunteers urges people to "create a mass awareness of the hunger in America" by creating a video about domestic hunger and a domestic hunger organization.

Log on to YouTube - Video Volunteers to get started.

Each month, the channel will feature different relevant issues with a new guest curator, and you could have the opportunity to showcase your work and your favorite organization to a huge audience.

Here's how you can help this Thanksgiving by participating in YouTube Video Volunteers.

1. Choose and organization working for beating hungry in America.

2. Make a promotional video, less than three minutes long, about the organization of your choice.

3. Submit your video to Video Volunteers/ YouTube by midnight, November 21.

YouTube Video Volunteers is in partnership with Feeding America, an organization that works with large corporate donors to secure food and grocery products on a national level to distribute, as needed, to local food banks. These are just a few statistics for the past year:

  • In 2008, 39.8 million people were in poverty.
  • In 2008, 8.1 million families were in poverty.
  • In 2008, 22.1 million of people aged 18-64 were in poverty.
  • In 2008, 14 million children under the age of 18 were in poverty.
  • In 2008, 3.6 million seniors 65 and older were in poverty

This Thanksgiving get creative and help fight American hunger.
