Only gone for a little over four months, it's sad to say Michael Jackson's legacy has taken a backseat to his money.
Joe Jackson, the 81... or is it 80-year-old?...former steel worker, is seeking a monthly allowance from Michael Jackson's estate.
The father of the king of pop, has no regular income, other than $1700 payment from Social Security every month and is said to have lived off of Michael's generosity for years.
Joe Jackson was not named in Michael's 2002 will.
Brian Oxman, Joe Jackson's lawyer, has petitioned for part of the family allowance, which was left to Michael's mother, Katherine, and Michael's three children totaling over $86,000 a month - 26 to Katherine and 60 to the children. Michael also left money to various charities.
According to Oxman, the petition will be heard Tuesday when Los Angeles Superior Court Judge, Mitchell Beckloff convenes for the matters related to the legal certification of Michael Jackson's will.
The pop icon made well over a billion dollars in his lifetime. He also spent his money excessively, racking up an estimated $400 million in debt by the time of his death. One estimate put the pop icon's net worth at around $230 million.
Joe Jackson saw his son's "This Is It" for the first time at a premiere event at The Palms in Las Vegas and said he enjoyed the film.
"The family is doing the best they can right now because of all this stuff that is going down and the investigation," he said.
Joe and Katherine Jackson have been married for 50 plus years, but do not live with one another. Joe lives in Las Vegas, Nevada and Katherine resides in a family home north of Los Angeles.
The exact amount Joe Jackson is requesting is not known.
