Do you remember when the Obama administration started and this Homeland Security Secretary Napolitano is suggested the T-word, terrorism, is too inflammatory and representative of old-fashioned "politics of fear."   She announced a new term: "man-caused disaster".

Recently I have noticed that the single-payer idea has now been replaced with "Medicare for all".   Evidently the word "single-payer" has been deemed to inflammatory, so now you hear "Medicare for all".   Is there a difference between the two?  None at all.   Just an attempt to repackage the same idea.

Here are some changes that could be made today  to make health insurance more affordable for all"

  1. Open enrollment needs to be limited to one month.   Currently carriers are forced to accept applicants without medical evidence taking on pre-existing conditions 12 months per year,   This should be limited one month just like any private employer or Medicare.
  2. Penalties need to be increase for both employees and employers who do not have or offer health insurance.
  3. Carriers should be able to offer plans that do not have health insurance that will still be deemed to meet Minimum Credible Coverage (MCC), thus avoiding any penalties.
  4. Carriers should be able to offer plans that do not require all the state mandates.
  5. An asset test to be added for a subscriber to be eligible for Commonwealth Care.
