    Word of the Day
    POSTED April 20, 7:46 AM
impinge--to make an impression, to have an effect or impact

The quote comes from James Joyce again, via a former student, Mika: "Through one of the broken panes I heard the rain impinge upon the earth..." (Araby)

I hesitate to impinge upon your Sunday with fatuous chatter or palaver of any sort, but to avoid the ignominy of skipping a "Word of the Day," I give you this brief, if somewhat turgid, vocabulary lesson.
