Suzie called the wildlife rescue league this morning because we were worried about Gracie, George and the babies closed up in the courtyard. It's a good thing she did - they said it was important to get them moved to water as soon as possible. A man by the name of Dave (his license plate is "Goosman") met Suzie and I up at school along with another rescuer named Carolyn. They captured George, then Gracie, with their bare hands and placed them in carriers. Then they picked up Ricky, Lucy, Fred and Ethel and we took all of them over to a pond near Mosby Woods Elementary School. They all made the trip safely. It was amazing to watch them trot off into the pond, one big happy family. They swam "away into the sunset". Dave said it was his 7th rescue this year. They wanted everyone to know how much they appreciated that we kept the courtyard off limits for the past month and provided a safe haven for Gracie and her eggs. (They said you cannot move the eggs so there was nothing that could have been done prior to today.) They also said that Gracie and George will probably come back to OHS to nest again next year. Suzie got some pictures of them at their new home. She will share them with you later this week.
