First a disclaimer, we have a 2nd generation iPod shuffle and love it. We’re runners and the shuffle is perfect for long excursions on the streets of Baltimore. It clips to whatever you’re wearing and the control is easy to use by feel.
The 3rd-generation shuffle gets rid of the controller all together from the player and moves it to the headphones cord. It also requires a bit of memorization to control some of the functions.
Also, if you lose or break the headphone/controller, you’ll either need to buy an adapter or another set of headphones with an integrated controller. We’re not snobs about the quality of ear buds, but we do seem to break them often. We like the idea of being able to buy a cheap pair of buds in the magazine shop at the airport. That doesn’t seem possible with the new Shuffle.
