The University of Minnesota Golden Gophers completed their sweep of UAA on Sunday, November 1st at Mariucci Arena by a score of 4-1.  The Seawolves went down to Minneapolis on a bit of a high note after getting a victory at home agaisnt the then 2nd ranked North Dakota.  Minnesota was winless on the year and hadn't scored a goal in 3 games.  Whether the Seawolves ran into a sleeping giant in the Golden Gophers or not will soon be determined as the two teams continue their WCHA schedules.

UAA has now fallen to 3-5 on the season and 1-3 in the WCHA, putting them in a tie for 9th place with Michigan Tech.  Minnesota now finds themselves at 2-3-1 in the WCHA and in a tie for 3rd in the Conference with two games in hand.  Standings

Sunday's game did not see a carryover in penalties that some might have expected.  After Friday's game witnessed 78 combined penalty minutes Sunday's game only had 16 combined penalty minutes, 4 minors by each team.  UAA's power play continued to struggle going 0-4, and Minnesota got their scoring going with their lone power play goal at 12:31 of the first period.

UAA trailed 3-0 before finally getting on the board at 11:14 of the third period with Freshman Mickey Spencer's first career goal.  Minnesota saw Coach Don Lucia's son, Tony Lucia come away with 2 points in the contest.  The New Jersey Devil's 2007 2nd round pick, Mike Hoeffel, also had 2 points, as did Sophomore and 22nd overall pick by the Vancouver Canucks in the 2009 draft, Jordan Schroeder.

Junior Bryce Christianson got his 3rd straight start in net for the Seawolves.  He played a stong game allowing 4 goals on 31 shots.  It should be noted that although the Seawovles struggled to put pucks in the net, they did outshoot Minnesota on the afternoon 32-31.  Stellar play by Junior, Alex Kangas, a 2006 fifth round selection by the Atlanta Thrashers was all that kept the Seawolves from bringing the score closer.  Box Score

The schedule doesn't get any easier for the Seawolves as they return home this weekend for 2 contests with the University of Denver.  Denver, 5-2-1 on the year, is currently ranked 2nd nationally and recieved 4 first place votes.  Rankings
