 Harvard professor Henry Gates was arrested in July by the Cambridge police for disorderly conduct and was soon released. Shorty thereafter Obama addressed the incident, "I don’t know, not having been there and not seeing all the facts, what role race played in that, but I think it’s fair to say, number one, any of us would be pretty angry; number two that he Cambridge police acted stupidly in arresting somebody when there was already proof that they were in their own home."

Obama's focused on the idea that America's law enforcement has concentrated on Blacks and Latinos, this being yet another example of everyday racial profiling.

 Last week Hasan murdered 13 of our military soldiers stationed at Fort Hood. Many were aware of his Muslim background, several feared his terrorist possibilities. More than all else, these soldiers were unable to accept the chance of being labeled as racists. As such they ignored the thoughts burning in their minds only to confront the death of their comrades in the end.
