When R&B singer Alicia Keys was on tour in Toronto she met jewelry designer Gisele Theriault through some of her bandmembers who were fans of her unique pieces.
"I fell in love with the individuality of the pieces, but more than that, the words that were written on them really resonated with the songwriter in me," the songstress told Women's Wear Daily magazine.
It was then that she was drawn to the idea of teaming up with the jewelry creator to design The Barber's Daughters collection - ranging from $85 to $2,500 - due out in stores in 2010.
The Canadian designer came up with the name reflecting what life was like growing up in Cape Breton, where she said "a name meant nothing... whose child you were was everything".
Her necklaces and cuffs are made of precious metals and stones inscribed with messages of hope and faith.
The pieces would make a great gift for special recipients on your holiday shopping list. You can scoop up Alicia and Gisele's gems online at www.thebarbersdaughters.com.
You'd be in good company - other stars who have taken a liking to the one-of-a-kind creations include Halle Berry, who paid $40,000 for one of the signature jewels at a charity auction.
The duo is holding a two-day preview sale at the Collette Blanchard Gallery at 26 Clinton Street in Lower Manhattan on November 23 and 24.
