Get $42,000. in tax rebates when you buy a Tesla Roadster in Colorado                                                            Manufacturers Photo

Just think of all of the fast and fun cars you could buy for $42,000.00.

Or image how much money you could save by buying the first all electric roadster produced in the U.S.

But you don't have to image. According to a recent story published on Autoblog.com that's about how much money you'll get back in tax rebates if and when you buy a Tesla Roadster in Colorado, and you happen to live there as well.

The catch?

You have to put down your cash and buy the car by the end of the year.

"The incentive actually applies to a slew of qualifying hybrid and electric vehicles and will be paid in the form of an income tax credit that's calculated by determining the difference in price of the alt-fuel car or truck as compared to a competitive gas-powered model. In the case of the Tesla Roadster, Colorado figures the EV costs a whopping $50K more than its competitive set... which we imagine might be the Lotus Elise," according to Autoblog.com

You also might want to keep in mind that a new Tesla Roadster starts at a base price o $109,000.00.

But the generous tax incentive could be one of the reasons why Tesla Motors is opening up a retail location in Boulder, Colorado this week and is now offering test drives to any potential customers.

You can read the recent Press Release below:

BOULDER, Colo.--(Business Wire)-- Tesla Motors will open a gallery in Boulder on Friday and offer test drives of the world`s leading electric vehicle throughout the weekend.

Colorado is a strong regional market and strategic base for Tesla, the only automaker producing and selling highway-capable EVs. The centennial state aims to be the most environmentally friendly in the nation, with Gov. Bill Ritter getting accolades as America`s "Greenest Governor."

US Roadster owners get a $7,500 federal tax credit, and Colorado`s progressive public policy offers additional incentives for residents who buy this year. Coloradans get more benefits if they replace their gas guzzler with an all-electric, zero-emission Roadster - the only car that`s faster than a Porsche 911 and twice as energy efficient as a Toyota Prius.

"Tesla`s newest gallery is a huge coup for those of us who live in and love Colorado," said Kimbal Musk, a Tesla board member, Internet entrepreneur and restaurant owner in Boulder. "Colorado was the adopted home of turn-of-the-century inventor Nikola Tesla, and it`s great to see that our state is still inspiring visionary change."
