In Parsha Vayeira we learn a very important principle of creation. It is that we are the instruments through which creation is perfection. Abraham demonstrates that he is the perfect vehicle for the times he is living in.

Because of Abraham many are called to listen to Hashem and start to know his ways. In this world due to the shattered state of the vessels that occurred as a result of the eating of the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil numerous corrections must take place.

We will find each stage of Torah developing this idea of correction and as we see in this parasha a people is destined to be born that will be instrumental in making sure that this correction is always taking place.

Hashem sustains Torah and the mitzvoth of the patriarchs are what give meaning to each section. Throughout Genesis and Exodus we witness a descent into chaos followed by a renewal of order and an affirmation of Hashem. One day perhaps even today in this very moment of reading these word Mashiach will arrive signaling the final stages of perfection. May it be so in this moment. Here is a short poem-piyyut to describe the present parasha and these accompanying thoughts.

You are there in all I see
In those places where light comes to be
Your voice a revelation bright
Fills me with awe and with delight.

In the darkness you tell me to shine
Sparks to behold and return what is thine
You teach me the way up and to below
Through connection we increase the holy flow.

Kindness always shows a caring hand
To deliver thy treasures and inherit thy land.
There is always one more step to this you will say
A people will come from my listening on the way.

The evil inclination it must pass away
Through mitzvoth and study in each day.
You are the vehicle of my correction
Born within you from my reflection.
