Rather than filling the dockets of the country with lawsuits against bloggers,  Rockstar Energy Drink has pulled a complete image reversal and welcomed the LGBT community into their caffeinated midst.  According to a press release put out by the company today, Rockstar affirmed its support for LGBT rights, expanded the LGBT-friendly corporate policies in its offices, and plans on donating over $100,000 to gay rights causes.

This is a shocker because of CEO Russell Weiner has totally broken from his father's (Michael Savage) views about the homosexual community.  While daddy might spot off that gay people should "get AIDS and die"   the statement from Russell was “We ... want to make clear today that our company fully supports our LGBT employees and our LGBT customers.  Some have erroneously associated our company with offensive language directed at LGBT people, specifically statements coming from Michael Savage, who is not and has never been a shareholder or officer of ROCKSTAR Energy Drink. On behalf of our company and directors, including myself and CFO Janet Weiner, I would like to take this opportunity to disavow any offensive statements directed toward LGBT people, including statements from Michael Savage. ROCKSTAR assures our customers and the general public that our brand will never be associated with any language that does not affirm the essential dignity of every person in our diverse national community.”

Even the steps the company has made internally is impressive.  Rockstar's $100,000 donation is significant, seeing as the company only has 120 employees.     Internally, Rockstar continues to offer domestic partnership benefits.  LGBT employees in domestic partnerships receive the same benefits coverage as heterosexual married employees, as well as the same protections afforded under the company’s sick leave, bereavement, leave for victims of domestic and sexual violence, and family military leave policies.

Rockstar produces some of the most popular and delicious energy drinks worldwide.  They produce over 11 different flavors, along with two powerful energy shots and caffeinated energy juice.  With apologies being made, gifts given and a political divorce from his father's political leanings, Russell has gone a long way towards making amends.   Being a caffeine user with a social conscience, ( and a longtime fan of Diet Rockstar), expect more Rockstar reviews shortly.
