First, Monster sues Rock Art Brewery to stop advertising, promoting and selling its Vermonster craft beer because the name was too similar.  Vermonster debuted in 2007 and is available in Arizona, Connecticut, Massachusetts, New Jersey Pennsylvania and Vermont.Hansens wants them to rename their barley brew and to pay for all Hansen's attorneys' fees.  While Monster comes in different sized black cans, Rock art's craft brew is sold in 22-ounce brown glass bottles and looks nothing at all like Monster.  The art does not look the same, and there is not a single drop of caffeine in it either.  Still, Hansens feels the need to punish them for choosing a name that has the word monster in it.

And not they are going after blogging sites as well.  Fellow energy drink review site Bevreview.com has just been served a letter, stating that they have "received information that you advertised and/or sold products bearing one or more of the Hansen marks, or confusingly similar derivations thereof", and are headed to court if they don't comply ( by doing what, who knows...)

Bevreview is a review site, much like this one - and did a not so flattering review of monster back in 2007.  Saw it the fact that the review of Monster was not positive lead to the attack by their lawyers?  Or was it just a case of clear misunderstanding by a very overzealous law firm.

Bevreview.com has been reviewing drinks for a long time - since 2001, but is not one to sell drinks, or even have any type of merchandising for any drinks they review.  In my own capacity, I have some not so favorable reviews of Monster drinks myself ( Monster Heavy Metal Monster Energy) although I like their drinks much more than bevreview.com does.  Still, I think Hansens is going to have a hard time overcoming all the negative press they are receiving from suing small websites and manufacturers for ridiculous reasons.  After all, look at all the work Rockstar energy had to do to get them out of their Michael Savage Fiasco.  Here is to hoping Hansen's sees the error of their ways and stops attacking all the wrong people.
