Iron Energy Orange Drink

April 28, 11:44 AM

Huracan and Iron Energy are 2 products put out by the same company , and are actually exactly the same product in a different can. I can understand the reasoning behind this, but still feel like I have been ripped off somehow. Not because of the drinks themselves, but because I just felt that different drinks should have different tastes, never mind the 500 red bull clones out there on the market.

As caffeinated sodas go , this one is just fine. Unfortunately, when I go for an energy soda, I either want candy flavor, high caffeine content, and enough ingredients that I can feel this is not AS bad for me as as drinking pure glack.  Iron Energy almost does that, giving better ingredients than a mountain dew, but slacking on the caffeine in the cans. Link Huracan, if this were redesigned in a 12oz can to even look like a soda pop - I think would suit this much better than being stuck with the the Red Bulls.

Buzz/Nutrition:8

I am judging this as a soda, so my expectations of the drink are much lower than I would usually rate more traditional energy drinks. That being said, This one has great nutrients, even if it has less caffeine than a mountain dew. But while MD has sucralose to sweeten it, this has Crystalline Fructose. This combination along with added Ginseng, B-Complex and Vitamin C delivers an energy pop which has the appearance of being better for you than your average Pepsico product. Still wish it had a higher caffeine concentration. With pepsi max and Diet MD and so many others out there, if I am going to go the unhealthy calorie laden direction, I need LOTS of pep for my buck.

Taste: 7
This tastes pretty great - lightly carbonated and tasted more like oranges than you would get out of a Sunkist can. If iI were to reach for an orange pop, this might be the one. It is larger than a 180 and more tasty than a Crush. And seeing as most orange themed sodas don't have ANY caffeine, even the little dose in here is better than nothing.

Packaging: 3
Poor and cheap - if there ever was a drink destined for the bargain bin, this would be it. Get rid of the Chancery flora font on bottom, clean up that silly horse looking thing and give this thing some design that does not look like it was made by a junior high school art student. I know the guy behind this drink is on the beverage boards and has some talent, time to show it by designing a can collectors would be proud to have on their shelves.

Website:0 http://www.ironenergy.com
So as opposed to Huracan, this one lists a website on the can - but it is not around! Even a half-assed attempt that is advertised is better than having nothing with the URL printed on the can
