The US National Arboretum by Michael Gregory

Thanksgiving season brings the opportunity of giving back and serving those who are less fortunate.   It is also a great way to support the community and build new relationships.  Remember that people like to do business with folks that they know, like and trust.

There are plenty of fun and simple ways to show gratitude while gaining fresh contacts.  Not sure where to start?  Here are some ideas to jumpstart the process:

1.     Volunteer at a charitable organization that prepares and serves meals for the poor

2.     Participate in a local Turkey Trot

3.     Organize a food drive or canned goods and then donate them to  local food pantries

4.     Donate old clothing to  local clothing banks

Charitable organizations in the Washington DC metropolitan area:

1.     SOME (so others might eat) -  www.some.org

2.     Turkey chase -   www.turkeychase.com

3.     Food and friends  -  www.foodandfriends.org

4.     Catholic charities USA -  www.catholiccharitiesusa.org
