This year, Glamour Magazine left no one out. Honoring. 12 women who have somehow made a difference, it showed some of the hottest women of the year. These women have made a difference in many ways. Held at New York City's Carnegie Hall, this event lacked nothing, including the wonder and amazement these women have and are making in other's lives with their contributions. Among the women honored were Rhianna, Maria Shriver, Stella McCartney, First Lady Michelle Obama, Serena Williams, Laura Ling, Euna Lee, Maya Angelou, Jane Aronson, Marissa Mayer, Amy Poehler, & Susan Rice.
So what did these fabulous ladies do? Rhianna stood up against abuse, (such as that by her ex-boyfriend Chris Brown), in hopes to educate girls and women worldwide. Maria Shriver who wrote, "The Shriver Report: A Woman's Nation Changes Everything", has worked to change the world in which women live and the actions that they take to make their world better. Stella McCartney, an avid animal protector does not use fabrics such as leather and fur, as well as her outstanding designs she has added to the fashion industry. Michelle Obama for her efforts to show others how to mentor and its importance in children's lives. Serena Wiliams was honored for her foundation, "Serena Williams Foundation", that gives college grants as well as opening a school in Kenya. Laura Ling and Euna Lee were honored for their effort to report on North Korean women who fight to cross to China in order to somehow evade starvation. During their reports they were arrested and imprisoned. Maya Angelou has been an inspiration to many through her writing as well as her ability to teach others, and be a civil right activist. Jane Aronson, who is known through her Worldwide Orphans Foundation, has brought much attention to the world's eyes about orphans. Marissa Mayer, a technological woman indeed, helped to make google the number one search engine. Amy Poehler is inspiring in more ways than her comedic abilities. She was also honored as an inspiring young women and girls. Susan Rice, was honored for putting women's issues first in the U.N. She is also the first United States black woman to be ambassador to the United Nations.
