After months of searching, the man who will play the lead role of Peter Parker, the Amazing Spider-Man, on Broadway has been selected. Reeve Carney, will take on the role in the new show Spider-Man, Turn Off the Dark.
Reeve is the lead singer of a rock band which bears his last name, Carney. Their latest single, "Love Me, Chase Me" was just released. How will Mr. Carney's voice work with the lyrics and music composed for the show by Bono and The Edge? It could very interesting. "Love Me, Chase Me" has a haunting tone to it that grows on you. Reeve's acting credits include Julie Taymor's upcoming film version of The Tempest and the film version of the acclaimed novel "Snow Falling on Cedars." Taymor is the Director of Spider-Man, Turn off the Dark.
The show faced financial and backing issues the last few months so that production was halted back in September. However, "key creatives" met on November 5 and confirmed two new producers; Michael Cohen will be lead producer and Jeremiah J. Harris will be second producer on the show. The full producting team will also include Hello Entertainment/David Garfinkle, Marvel Entertainment/David Maisel, and Sony Pictures Entertainment. Full financing is expected to be in place shortly and then full production will resume. The first preview show is still listed as February 25, 2010 on the Ticketmaster website. There was no word as to whether that date will hold or be changed.
