A burglary suspect who ran from police, then crashed his car was taken to Shock Trauma by Anne Arundel County paramedics. It all started on Wednesday, November 4, 2009, at approximately 9:54 a.m., officers from the Eastern District responded to the 1200 block of Baltimore Annapolis Boulevard in Arnold for a report of a burglary in progress.
Upon arrival, officers spoke with the 62-year-old female victim, who told police she observed a male subject inside her residence. The suspect became aware of the homeowner and immediately fled the scene in a dark-colored Saturn.
Officers began to canvass the area and quickly located the suspect vehicle. An officer attempted to stop the vehicle, but the suspect refused to do so. Officers lost sight of the vehicle, but located the suspect vehicle a few minutes later in a ravine off of the Route 100 W entrance ramp from Ritchie Highway North. The suspect fled the scene on foot northbound. It was determined that the suspect struck the side of another vehicle while entering the ramp and caused minor damage to the vehicle, but the driver was not injured.
An immediate perimeter was set up with the assistance of a K-9 unit. Within minutes, Eastern District Detectives apprehended the suspect as he was fleeing on foot towards Mountain Road. The suspect was transported to Shock Trauma for treatment of minor injuries.
The suspect was charged with 1st Degree Burglary; 3rd & 4th Degree Burglary; Theft over $1,000, two counts of Theft under $100, Fleeing and Eluding along with various other traffic charges.
