Ladies Night Out
Ladies Night Out

It was Saturday night and the girls and I had already gathered uptown for pre-party cocktails. With final touches added to make–up and hairstyles, we hopped on the Metro to Dupont Circle for an exciting night out on the town. Our first stop: 1813 M St. for the Scorpio Bash at Ozio’s Restaurant and Lounge.

Rounding the corner of M St., we could already make out the smooth beats of Hip Hop and R&B booming from speakers inside the lounge. Hosted by Aladdin from WPGC 95.5, we figured the event was going to be packed and seeing the crowd of partygoers waiting outside was of no surprise. Dinner and happy hour was from 6-10 pm and the party was to last until 3 am. Drink specials such as Absolute Mango and Razz mixes were $6.00 and martini’s, shooters and rum shots were all $5.00. Having RSVP’d for the event in advance, we were sure of our entry into the club, that is, until we noticed that everyone else standing in line with us was also on the guest list. The invite to the Scorpio Bash said free before 12 am, and true to their word, they began collecting admissions from everyone at the exact stroke of midnight. Unfortunately cover charges were not on the nights’ agenda and so we made a hop, skip and a jump to the next spot for the evening.

Sign of the Whale, located at 1825 M St, was wall to wall packed and making your way to the bar meant squeezing through mobs of dancing bodies and dodging spilling drinks. Clips of the various college football games played on ESPN while the DJ played a variety of R&B and dance mixes. The food and beverage prices were moderate and the bar has some of the best burgers in town. The Whale is open weekdays from 11am until 2am and on weekends from 11am – 3am.

The last and final hop was the Restaurant and Saloon Rumors located on the corner of 19th and M. St. We were shifted by the moving crowd to the rear of the club where a long bar served up delicious and moderately priced cocktails. The crowd danced to a mix of Techno, Pop, and R&B while multiple flat screens displayed the Louisville and WVU game and segments from Book TV. Being careful not to collide with hype breakdancers twirling sporadically about, we made our way to the center of the dance floor, overlooked by a rather large mounted moose head. Rumors is open Sunday -Thursday from 11:30 am–2 am and on Friday and Saturday from 11:30 am to 3 am.
