The 40th Anniversary Season at Van Wezel Performing Arts Hall in Sarasota started with the first three outstanding concerts and will suggest one of the most rich list of performances, concerts and pieces in South-Western Florida. The peak of the season will be the Tony Bennet Anniversary Concert on Jan. 5th, but one should miss what's happening next week-end.
The Van Wezel has a long tradition of presenting world-class arts and entertainment on Sarasota's beautiful bay front. The current season welcome some perennial favourites (The Beach Boys, Bernadette Peters, Dave Koz, Frankie Valli and Liza Minelli among them), some Broadway and concert stars (such as Chita Rivera, Patti Lupone and Gladys Knight), some Broadway hits (Mamma Mia!, Avenue Q and Xanadu, to name a few), acclaimed dance ensembles (including the Martha Graham Dance Company, the Joffrey Ballet and the Israel Ballet) and classical musicians of sterling reputation, such as Itzhak Perlman and Lang Lang.
But the next week-end program is made for all people and tastes.
It starts on Saturday 14th at 10:30AM with King Cole Theatricals performing "Stellaluna" especially for kids.
On Sunday 15th at 6:30PM the New Shanghai Circus will bring to Sarasota the two thousand years of Chinese Circus tradition. A family appointment.
The peak will be on Monday 16th at 7:30PM: Stephen King will present his new book "Under the Dome", thought an Interview with the local journalist Susan Rife and through 'QA with the public.
The cultural high season has already started in Sarasota and those who are attentive can pick exclusive happenings (such as King's presentation) and confirm once again the traditional adagio: "Just another day in Paradise".
