More blowouts means more bench minutes and scoreboard watching for Garnett and other Celtic players

Last night featured nine games on the NBA schedule and I used the last night of the NBA League Pass Free Preview to take in as much action as I could.

Another Edition of 20/20 – Yesterday, I wrote about Gerald Wallace posting a 20 point, 20 rebound night against the New Jersey Nets. Last night, Luol Deng duplicated the effort with a 24 point, 20 rebound performance in a win over the Milwaukee Bucks. The output was eerily similar to Wallace’s performance the night before, even down to the zero assists. Deng has looked good this year as he returns from the injury that caused him to miss 22 games last season. If he continues to remain healthy, fantasy owners can continue to expect big numbers for Deng.

Another Member of the Club – Dirk Nowitzki officially joined the 40-point club this season after he finished with 40 points last night against the Utah Jazz. The impressive thing is that Nowitzki scored 29 in the fourth quarter to help erase a 15-point lead to help the Mavericks to the victory. I have been critical of Dirk in the past because in my opinion he has a tendency to disappear at key points in games or series – for example, losing four straight games to the Miami Heat in the 2006 NBA Finals and losing to the #8 ranked Golden State Warriors as a #1 seed in the 2007 playoffs. However, last night’s performance was impressive as the Mavericks moved to 3-1 on the early season.

Another Boston Blowout – The Boston Celtics won last night by a 31-point margin over the Philadelphia 76ers (105-74). I spoke previously about how team depth will affect fantasy numbers and these types of blowouts are not different. Only two of the Celtics’ starters scored in double figures (Paul Pierce & Rajon Rondo), while Kevin Garnett and Ray Allen finished with 3 and 5 points, respectively. Only two Celtics’ players played over 30 minutes in the game last night – both Ray Allen and Paul Pierce logged 31 minutes.

Farewell Free Preview – Last night was the last night of the NBA League Pass preview week and I enjoyed it while it lasted! I have not bitten the bullet yet to invest in the League Pass so I will definitely miss the ability to watch multiple games every night. I still have ESPN, TNT, NBA TV, and Comcast (for the Wizards’ games) so I should be able to get my fill of NBA action.
