Is it still considered Opening Week? I guess until Tuesday rolls around, it still is. Thoughts from last night . . .

Philadelphia vs New York – This game was a fantasy owner’s dream with the 76ers scoring 141 points in the victory. Despite the loss the Knicks scored 127 points and were led by Al Harrington’s 42 points. The Knicks inserted Danilo Gallinari into the starting lineup and the young Italian scored 30 points and hit 8 three-pointers. The Sixers had five players in double figures and four of those players scored over 20 points. Fantasy owners may want to target Gallinari of the Knicks if he is still available now that he has moved into the Knicks’ starting lineup. Also, Marreese Speights may be a good pickup as well having scored 20+ points in two of the Sixers first three games.

Missing You – Over the past few years the best alley-oop combination in the NBA has been Chris Paul and Tyson Chandler of the New Orleans Hornets. The best years of Chandler’s career have also been while playing with Chris Paul and the Hornets. This offseason Chandler was traded from the Hornets to the Charlotte Bobcats for Emeka Okafor. Through the first three games, Chandler has struggled scoring a total of only 14 points to go along with subpar rebounding numbers. Also, Chris Paul’s assist numbers have declined this year, having only 13 assists through the first two games. Fantasy owners can expect Paul’s assist numbers to increase throughout the year, but it is unsure whether Chandler’s numbers will increase as the seasons deepens.

No ‘O’ for Oden – Last year Greg Oden found himself in and out of the starting lineup as he struggled to adjust to the NBA game after sitting out the 2007-08 season with injury. He finished the year averaging 8.7 points and 7.0 rebounds. This year he has established himself as the starter but he continues to struggle with his offensive game. Over the first three games he has averaged 10 rebounds and 3+ blocks but he has only scored a total of 14 points. If fantasy owners are looking for blocks and rebounds, Oden is a solid option but he is not a reliable offensive threat at this point in his career.

Kicking Myself – I will give a fantasy tip that is probably common sense for most fantasy owners . . . Do not forget to set your lineup each day! I forgot to set my lineup for one of the three fantasy teams that I am managing and I am kicking myself right now. Brandon Roy and LaMarcus Aldridge put up big numbers and they are both sitting on the bench for me. Aldridge broke out and scored 27 points while Roy had a huge night with 42 points, 6 rebounds, and 4 assists.
