One may walk into their local Starbucks and simultaneously feel right at home. The setting and atmosphere suggest a calm, welcoming presence, at the same time bringing in considerable revenue. For the most part, the Starbucks Coffee Franchise has become an independent and successful business. However, to many people these locations aren’t exactly among the best coffee shop experiences. Many locals here in Platteville prefer the smaller, independent businesses such as Badger Brothers Coffee. So which one to choose? Which will give a better experience and make you feel happy after leaving? Obviously, this statement can easily be argued.

It was a depressingly cold day in Madison and overcast weather gave everything a cold, dead hue. Everywhere I looked there were pedestrians walking with thick coats and matching headgear. It was impossible to know where they were all heading, trotting in every direction. One thing was noticeable: everyone seemed miserable. Signs of winter were showing and the peaceful stages of fall had come and gone. As I walked among them it was like an airborne disease, and soon enough I, too, felt gloomy. A sudden idea arose somewhere in my head. I could go for a coffee right now.

Battling hectic traffic and angry drivers I finally made it to the suburb of Fitchburg, where my favorite Starbuck is located. The parking lot was full and I knew everyone else had the same idea as I. Pulling the door wide open is a habit of mine. When done fast enough, the sweet aroma of coffee beans and other spices comes pouring out, as if being sucked into the air like a vacuum. This is simply an incredible welcome to anyone. In contrast to the outside cold, the walls were painted a warm flesh color and the lights had been dimmed to create a homey effect. The funny thing was that it actually worked. My bare arms were soon touched with a warm rush of air. All around were people of all different backgrounds: businessmen on lunch break, teachers grabbing a quick espresso, new parents getting any caffeine they could to stay awake, and the occasional lonely man who sits alone, wise and reminiscent.

The market can be very competitive, and Starbucks has adjusted to the challenges. One common sight in their stores are computers scatted across the room. They offer wireless internet to attract the busy bees of life. The company has taken advantage of their homelike surroundings and added amenities like this to promote business. Peace and mental clarity are some common traits inside a Starbucks.

And the main reason for even creating a chain of coffee shop locations: Starbucks Coffee! It has been acclaimed as the best brew around that is easily found (though many would disagree). Innovations such as high quality eco-friendly cups and slip-on heat protectors are a stereotypical look for their products. In the end, this has become a highly successful business worldwide and continues to grow in popularity.
