Sound Engineering is fast becoming a popular field of study among students today. It is the name given to those behind the scenes who are responsible for committing the music created by a singer or group to tape and later editing it down to the format most hear on the radio or personal listening devices. Many people, especially in the Greater Philadelphia area, are looking to get into sound engineering but are often stunned to find that schools offering programs in the field seem to be rather far away, with the closest ones being in New York and Boston.
However, one option that is either overlooked or completely unknown to most looking is in rather close proximity. Camden County College in Blackwood, NJ, offers a program for those looking to get into sound engineering. The Music Recording Certificate is a two-semester program which takes one through just about every angle of the field with classes ranging from MIDI to Live Sound Recording and everything in between. Additionally, Camden County has its own recording studio in which students get hands on training while gaining real-world knowledge.
