The uniforms the Huskers will wear on Sept. 26 will be replicas of these worn by
Nebraska in 1962.

It was announced today by the University of Nebraska that in honor of the team's 300th consecutive sellout, the Huskers will dawn the uniforms the team wore when the streak started in 1962. The game will take place on Sept. 26 at Memorial Stadium against Louisiana-Lafayette. Adidas, who is the sponsor for UNL athletics will be designing the uniforms.

The jersey's will be a plain red with the numbers being a more rounded style, rather than the current block style. The helmets for the team will be white with only the players number in black on the side which will be accompanied by a gray face mask. Also, along with the celebration will be an auction for the throwbacks. Numbers one through ninety-nine will be up for sale in sets which includes the jersey, pants and the helmet. Husker authentic will also been selling replicas of both the helmets and the jerseys, according to Huskers.com.

As a lifelong Husker fan, I couldn't be happier about this decision by the athletic department. A school with the type of football history Nebraska has should celebrate it more often. The Huskers may not of been national champs back in 1962, but it slowly became the beginning of an incredible era. I love the traditional uniforms the team uses now, but it's nice to shake things up a bit, especially when it's to honor something as special as the sellout streak.

Former Nebraska punter Kyle Larson was a part of
the last Husker team to wear a different style of uniform.

Over the past few years, the idea of having alternate uniforms has been kicked around, namely all black ones in support of the struggling defense. Personally if it's not red or white, I want nothing to do with it. Besides the team wearing all white against Colorado in 2007, The game against Lafayette will be the first time the team wore an out of the ordinary uniform since the hideous ones the team suited up in during the 2003 season. Ya know those ones with the plain jane red stripe along the side. Never has a uniform made me as nauseous as those did.

Either way, the move should garner some excitement that otherwise would have been lost for what seems to be more of a practice game for the Huskers before their much anticipated match up against Missouri on Oct. 26. It will also be interesting to see how the team responds against Lafayette after having to play at Lane Stadium against Virginia Tech the week prior.
