Along with Nebraska's 20-10 victory over Baylor yesterday came more big news, sophomore defensive tackle Jared Crick has been named the National Defensive Player of the Week. With the Bears offensive line focused on the play making ability of Ndamukong Suh, Crick got the chance to make name for himself and he did so in impressive fashion. The Cozad native tied a school record with a total of five quarterback sacks as well as adding 13 tackles (seven for loss) and a fumble recovery.
The award only furthers how well Bo Pelini coaches up defensive lineman. If Crick can continue to get better each week, he could potentially be mentioned in the same breath as Suh and maybe even former LSU defensive tackle Glen Dorsey. Though that certainly would be no easy task, Crick has proved he has the size, strength and intangibles to be able to take over a game. Yesterday's match up with Baylor left many wondering if the pair of Jared Crick and Ndamukong Suh could be the best defensive tackle combination in the country.
