Yes, there is a recession bearing down upon us and there are many out there desperately wishing for a mental break. The hours that were once productively used to improve your boss’ bottom-line are now used to improve your resume and beat-the-street trying to get back on track and employed. However, there comes that point in the day where one might call it quits and try to take your mind off of the real life burdens. Now to figure out how to do just that!?

Here is an idea…think of the movie called, “The Secret Life of Walter Mitty”, and the solution might be just what one might need and it is recession-friendly, because it is free! All you need is a high-speed Internet connection, a decent graphics card, and off you may go to enter your second life. In Second Life, one will find themselves in a virtual world where virtually anything goes. Here, you can relax and go dancing, start a business, buy land and have the home of your dreams, take classes, shop, see live concerts, watch movies, and meet people from around the world. Do not worry if you cannot dance, the technology is there to do it all for you.

Virtual technologies have become so popular that corporations and educational institutions are also becoming more active using these technologies as well, like International Business Machines (IBM). It seems to be a common theme in the human condition to always want more and become more and we know that in real life we have our limitations. Now it is time to relax from a day of fighting the good fight and just explore and trust that you will not be alone. There are millions of registered Second Life Users from all over the world just like you finding their freedom from the daily grind that real life throws at us.

Second Life might make Walter Mitty proud.
