Navy Midshipmen football has been synonymous with the spread offense.

In Annapolis this Saturday, Temple will face Navy for the fourth consecutive time. Familiarity helps when facing this unique offense scheme. However, like John Chaney’s match-up zone, familiarity with unique strategies and preparation, can go out the window on game day.

The deciding factor in this week’s game however will be the Navy 3-4 Defense.

In last week’s win over Wake Forrest, the Navy defense remained energetic and swarmed through all four quarters of play.

Wake attempted to pound the ball right up the gut of Navy’s Defense. It did not work. Wake was held to 3 points over the first three quarters and by the time they abandoned the run, it was too late, Navy won 13-10.

Temple and Navy are both red hot (5 straight wins) with the winner able to claim the best Non-BCS football team on the East Coast.

Temple has been successful this year in wearing down defenses and creating big plays.

Coach Golden believes Temple “will need a full team effort” to defeat Navy on Saturday.

Temple has not played their best game yet.

Saturdays game was originally scheduled as a home game for Temple, part of a 4 season home and home series. This is the last game in the series and was briefly canceled by Navy. The game was rescheduled when Temple agreed to new terms with the key difference being the game being played in Annapolis. There are no plans for a future series. Connecticut and Maryland will be future OOC opponents with both teams visiting Philadelphia first.
