Two people were shot with two-millimeter brass bullets fired from a pneumatic rifle during a protest rally outside of a Santa Monica, California store known for selling puppy mill dogs. The two victims were not seriously injured, but according to police, such rifles can be deadly.
The incident happened when a group of people peacefully protesting the sale of dogs from puppy mills were fired on by an apparent sniper. Two protesters were shot in the legs, one of whom credits her protest sign for stopping the bullet from causing her greater harm.
The protesters disagree with the practices of puppy mill owners whose factory operations produce puppies by the thousands in inhumane, unsanitary conditions.
Store owner Scott Lee, refused to comment.
The Santa Monica police are investigating the crime. For more information visit Social Compassion in Legislation.
