Shelter dog waiting to meet you.

October is that special time of year when the American Humane Association encourages everyone to consider adopting a shelter dog.  Millions of dogs are surrendered to animal shelters each year, and all of them are looking for new homes.  You could make the day of a dog by choosing to adopt instead of buy.

Skip the pet store where puppies often come from inhumane puppy mills, and visit your local animal shelter instead.  Here you will find dogs of all sorts.  Twenty-five percent of dogs in animal shelters are pure breds.

The American Humane Association works year-round to support the human animal bond, but during October they offer many more tools and resources to help people and animals come together in successful and enduring friendships.

For more information visit American Humane Association.

And now for a funny and brilliant video about dog adoption, check out the band You Scream I Scream and their amazing hit single, Dog.
