Under Obamacare, where will Canadians go for medical services?

The other day my wife and I were listening to WTOP's Mark Plotkin criticize Senator Max Baucus (D - MT) for not fast tracking President Obama's plan to nationalize health care in the United States.  Without provocation, my wife (a Canadian), who finds my infatuation with listening to WTOP whenever I am in the car pretty funny, said: 

"They tried that in Canada.  It didn't work.  The Canadians come here for their operations just like their nurses and doctors come here to work."

Well, of course.  But what does this have to do with guns?  Enter Gun Owners of America (GOA) and privacy rights experts. 

In an alert to its members, GOA contends that under Obamacare's medical record computerization mandate, the government will be able to access your previously confidential medical records to deny you gun rights.  .GOA concludes by urging members to contact their Congressional delegation via this easy to use action link.

But privacy experts are alarmed as well at the Obama administration's "damn the torpedoes" attitude to impose statist policy mandates at whatever the cost to privacy.  According to Peter Swire, President Clinton's privacy chief at OMB,

"[t]he Obama people like the 'net. They like Cookies.  . . . are enamored with new interactive technologies on the Internet . . . and they apparently view any attempt to impose privacy standards as a drag on exciting new developments."  See "Obama Team Cautious About Privacy Protections," Privacy Journal, 1, June 2009.

So even if gun rights are not your priority these days, you still might want to hit GOA's action link and tell your Congressional delegation to derail Obamacare before it's too late.
