November third is rapidly approaching. The state of Ohio has three issues up for vote. Two of which are no brainers in this writers opinion and the last, well, ill-conceived. To read the wording of these issues (from Trumbull County Board of Elections website) click here.

The opinions expressed herein are solely those of the author.

The state issues are as follows:

Issue 1: Shows a little appreciation for the heroes of The Gulf War, the Iraq and Afghanistan Wars, and other regions of the sandbox. Also provides burial expenses for those who bravely faced hell and ended up in Heaven. This falls in the tradition of Ohioans honoring those who fought courageously and faced atrocities beyond comprehension since World War 1. Please read the official argument in favor of Issue 1.

GOD bless the soldiers and veterans. Show your appreciation. Vote Yes!

Issue 2: Protect our farms and our farmers, promote locally grown food. This issue would create the Ohio Livestock Care Standards Board consisting of farmers, consumers, safety experts, etc. It will also preempt attempts by the fur nazis and other radical organizations to launch legal attacks on carnivores. This issue would protect farmers, consumers and everything from green beans to Holsteins. Please read the official argument in favor of Issue 2.

Protect our farmers and our food. Vote yes on Issue 2.

Issue 3: Any and all attempts to change the constitution in favor of a monopoly should not even be considered. The following text is taken directly from the proposed amendment verbatim "Require that casino gaming be conducted only by authorized casino operators of these four casino facilities or by licensed management companies retained by such casino operators."

This would make it illegal for any other entity to open a casino anywhere else in Ohio. Casino gambling is not the issue here. Correctly done, it should be passed openly and statewide. This incarnation should go the way of past swindles. Vote No on issue 3.

Trumbull County:

Annual Motor Vehicle License Tax: NEW TAX

We are overtaxed already. Government needs to learn to tighten it's belt just like the rest of us. BMV prices have already increased significantly as of October 01, 2009 and now they want more! Vote No.

The following is an excerpt from an Ohio BMV news release:

"Fees that are increasing Oct. 1 are: Vision Screening Fee (increase of $1.75, impacts all operator license renewal transactions including standard driver license, commercial driver license and motorcycle endorsement), Temporary Tag Fee (increase of $8), Registration for Personalized Plates (increase of $15) and Registration for Initial Reserve Plates (increase of $15). In addition to these changes, a $20 fee has been added for all late license and vehicle registration renewals."

Other local tax issues:
