The eyebrows are so very important to the overall appearance of the face. Yet, even women who do everything else absolutely right can make horrible mistakes with their eyebrows. “If the eyes are the windows to your soul, then the eyebrows are the window dressing. Perfect eyebrows can make all the difference because they frame your eyes and add definition to your face,” says Dimitri James, author, Becoming Beauty and founder skinn.com.
“The eyebrows are the easiest feature on your face to change. They also can make the biggest difference in the look of your face. Just think, whereas surgery is necessary to correct the appearance of features such as the eyes, nose, and chin, changing your eyebrows using only wax and tweezers can have an equally dramatic effect!
The best way to create perfect brows is to visit a professional aesthetician with a good reputation for shaping brows. Waxing or tweezing typically costs between $15 and $50. After your initial appointment, it is easy to maintain your brows at home by following the shape the professional has established. For the woman on a budget, visit your local cosmetology school. Book an appointment with one of their aesthetician students for top quality brow waxing and other professional skin services at a fraction of your local top day spa prices. Frankly, the services are often better,” says Dimitri. “Just be sure to ask for a senior student,” he warns.
“It is important to remember, just as your skin falls and sags with age, so do your eyebrows. To avoid having unshapely brows that can make you look older or even droopy, adjust the height of your brows over the years. Try tweezing your eyebrows in the tub. Hair slips out easily and painlessly when the skin is warm and moist. Your brows should be the same shade or a shade or two darker than your natural hair color. If you have gray hair, choose either a taupe shade for your brows or a shade close to the color of your hair before it went gray. If your hair was very dark before it went gray, do not color your brows dark brown. Instead choose a color that is two shades lighter than your natural color, such as a dark taupe or ash brown if you hair was black and is now silver. Your brows should never be lighter or brighter than your hair color. For example, women with bright red hair can choose a deep auburn brown instead of strawberry blonde brows. Women with black hair should color their brows in charcoal or dark brown shades and not a bright blue-black.”
Since having groomed eyebrows helps to polish your look and define your face, it is important to create a great brow shape. “If your natural brow line is too low, you need to remove as much of your natural brow as necessary and redraw the brow in correctly. Large, round, protruding, or bulging eyes need to be framed by thicker brows. Thin brows above big, round eyes will make you look like a bug. If you have deep-set eyes, choose thinner, more arched brows that emphasize and widen the eyes. Finally, remember to keep one eye length between your brows!”
