Blockstacker

It's Facebook Friday once again. Today we're looking at a brand new Facebook game released just today - Blockstacker.

The object of Blockstacker is to rearrange the colored blocks on screen so that they make vertical stacks of three or more of the same color, and continue doing so as long as possible in a survival of the blockiest. There are, of course, special blocks in game to both help and hinder you.

Although the falling blocks will remind you of Tetris, this is definitely not Tetris. In fact, you can barely manipulate the falling pieces at all - all the work's done at the bottom of the screen, with the blocks that have already fallen. And while the first few "levels" are easy, since there's only three colors and no power-ups to worry about, the difficulty ramps up pretty fast. Power-ups are added almost all at once. Keys and locks give you hearts when locked together, but you need two hearts to make them affect the board. Three bombs together (again, all this has to be vertical) will blow up local blocks. And skulls - well, if two skulls link up vertically, the entire two rows get linked up together, which is generally a very bad thing.

Blockstacker isn't terribly hard, but it isn't terribly fun, either. It doesn't take long to get bored of the game. You can pause at any time by clicking outside the screen, but nothing gets covered up, allowing you to preplan each move if you want or need to. Add to that a lack of innovation, and Blockstacker just doesn't stack up.
