Farmers market cooking class

Cooking classes are how I really learned to cook. Yes, way back in the olden, golden days there was no internet, no Food Network – there was PBS and actual classes. I started with hands-on classes with Germaine Sharretts in a church on Charles Street. I eventually moved on to classes run by Jane Fallon in the same church. Putting your hand into the food, creating it was the best teacher. With that in mind, let me tell you about a hands-on class that ties in a trip to the local farmers market.
Farmers Market Cooking Class
On Sunday, June 7
th join
Executive Chef Bill Crouse of Sotto Sopra Restaurant for a farmers market cooking class. Students will gather at Sotto Sopra Restaurant early in the morning, 7:45 a.m. and at 8 a.m. promptly walk down to the Sunday Farmers Market at Saratoga and Pleasant Streets. Chef will talk to you about the produce; what to look for in the product you buy, cleaning and proper storage. When finished shopping, students will walk back up to Sotto Sopra’s kitchen where this hands-on class will cook a meal with the products bought at the market. Class will run from 7:45 a.m. to approximately 3 p.m., cost is $70 per person. The farmers market cooking class is limited to 12 students only.
At the end of the class, all will sit down and enjoy the meal and wine. There is no specific menu; it is what looks good at the market that day.
Contact Monika Pawlak Bosio at 410 625 0534 for class application and release form or write
ciao@sottosopra.us.
Students should wear comfortable, rubber-soled shoes (you will be walking to the market and standing in the kitchen), clothing appropriate for a kitchen and will need to sign a release form to work in the kitchen.
The cooking class is a guaranteed reservation. Cancellations accepted up to 24 hours prior to the class, anything less than 24 hours or no shows will be billed. No other promotions or discounts are applicable to the class cost.
I don’t think it is a secret but let me reiterate it once more, that am Sotto Sopra's public relations represenative. What I really am is passionate about cooking classes. I have written about cooking classes all over the city and keep a link on my Examiner page (
link 1 &
link 2) to those stories and people offering cooking classes. I am focusing on this class because of the farmers market theme, fresh farm products and the proper handling of those products. This is truly a hands-on cooking class; students will be actively involved in the preparation and cooking of the meal.
