In the past couple of weeks I heard from two different Baltimore chefs that the Food Network’s cooking competition show, Chopped, hosted by Ted Allen has approached them to come to New York for an interview. Being food nosy, maybe I should say food curious, I gave the Chopped staff a call.
Q & A with Chopped:
Q: Are you looking to do an all Baltimore episode?
A: No, the chefs would be interspersed through out the season
Q: Why Baltimore and what lead you to the chefs in your outreach
A: The casting director is from Baltimore so they had some insight as to the hot-spots. Also they looked at the customer responses from the summer’s restaurant week to get an idea as to what chefs were doing what..
Q: I know of three chefs you contacted; one a restaurant chef, one a teacher and one a personal chef. Were there others?
A: Yes, but we’ve been interviewing so many I can’t remember all.
Q: Would you say you interviewed over a half dozen from Baltimore.
A: Not even that many. Some applied on line and others we outreached.
At this point until they make their decision as to who will be on the show from Baltimore, I'm not mentioning names but will get the info to you as soon as I hear more details.
Are you a chef and do you want to go on Chopped?
The network representative told me they are especially looking for women chefs who are willing to compete not that they are turning down the men. They are outreaching to chefs located within a 3 ½ hour circumference of New York City. Maryland, parts of Pennsylvania, Delaware, New Jersey, New York, Connecticut, Rhode Island and parts of Massachusetts.
Can YOU make the cut, or will you be
?

P. S. Last week Top Chef and Top Chef Pastry were in Washington DC scouting talent at the Women Chefs and Restaurateurs conference. I know one local gal that applied. As always, ear to the ground and fork in hand.
