For a short, previously svelte person, I have a “healthy” appetite. My late mother-in-law used to say I ate like a stevedore. It was never an appetite large enough that I would enter an eating contest and make money, nor do I think I would admit it here if I did. Eating contests brings me to Adam Richman host, star and glutton of Man Vs. Food on the Travel Channel. Here is a man with an appetite who takes eating challenges seriously enough to tackle  a 10 lb burger, a pizza the size of a conference table or the omelet that ate the world. “HUGE man,” I say and “HOT too” with habanero and scotch bonnet peppers, heat off the Richter scale.

Tonight, tonight won’t be just any night!

Why am I mentioning tonight. Host Adam Richman was recently in Baltimore checking out city secrets and taking a Maryland eating challenge. Tonight they are premiering the episode on the Travel Channel at 10 E/P.

Adam's trip starts with a visit to Chaps Charcoal Restaurant to try our local carnivorous creation found only in Baltimore: pit beef. Did you know it was a Baltimore dish? I must add it to my list of local specialities; French fries with gravy, coddies and chocolate snowballs with marshmallow topping.

On to Obryicki’s Crab House. In Adam’s words, “Here, crab is king”. Richman ponders the question does Obryicki’s have the best crab cakes in the country? Who has the best crab cakes are fighting words in Baltimore. There have been many a top 10 list and everyone has a preference, but I digress.

And finally, the “glutton segment” as I like to call it, the Man Vs Food segment. The one my husband loves to watch - it must be a testosterone thing. Adam heads to Steak & Main in Northeast, Maryland, for the 'Great Steak Challenge'. I'm not sure 'great' describes just how massive this challenge is. Adam has one hour to eat five different cuts of beef (74 ounces total) and one pound of sides. Two dozen have attempted this feat, but only four have succeeded. Whether Adam finished this challenge will be answered tonight as the Baltimore segment of Man Vs Food airs. Also, check out the 'Great Steak Challenge' for yourself with this sneak peek video below.
