  Candy must be unopened.

Once your trick-or-treaters return home, they start grabbing the candy from their bag with the full expectation of eating – you guessed it – loads and loads of sweet, chocolaty and sticky candy.

What’s a parent to do? Run, don’t walk, to the dentist.  No – it’s not because of cavities.  Many dentists across the U.S. participate in the Halloween Candy Buy Back program in which they will pay you $1.00 per pound of candy.

Where could a Canton family take their candy?  Morris, Simmons and Associates, 32363 Ann Arbor Trail, Westland, (734) 425-5580 is the closest dental office that participates.  They will collect the candy on Sunday, November 1, 2009 from 3:00 PM - 5:30 PM.  They even sweeten the deal by handing out a Firefly glow-in-the dark toothbrush, a bag of goodies and a chance to win a Nano iPod.  Please note that there is a five pound limit.

Basically, the dentists take your left-over candy and ship the candy to our U.S. troops overseas.  The candy gives the troops a sense of tradition.  It also shows our support as this soldier states,

“Thanks to folks like you for making our lives at little more bearable while we are away from our families. You are the wind beneath our wings and you (and GOD) give us strength…” V/R, TSgt S.T. , US Armed Forces.

To search for other participating dentists, go to the Halloween Candy Buy Back website.  Not only is the Halloween Candy Buy Back Program good for your kids’ teeth, but it’s also great for the family budget.  That extra cash comes in handy this time of year.
