Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) officials held an outreach meeting today to solicit feedback and future bids from contracting and design firms for construction on the Warm Springs BART extension. A BART document pertaining to the outreach meeting indicates that construction on the Warm Springs extension is expected to begin in late 2009 and be completed in 2014.
A ground breaking was held on Sept. 30 for the Warm Springs BART extension project. The Warm Springs BART station will be the first station extension south of the Fremont station and will be the first part of the BART Silicon Valley Extension.
After the Warm Springs station is completed, other stations planned for south of Warm Springs include a station in Milpitas, four stations in San Jose, and a final station in Santa Clara at a transportation center with connections to Caltrain trains as well as ACE and Capitol trains.

The BART outreach meeting today is the first opportunity for contracting and design firms to come together in one place and network as BART undertakes the first segment of the long-awaited BART extension to Silicon Valley.
Although the proposed BART stations in San Jose and Santa Clara are many years away, the possibility of being able to take a train ride from San Francisco, east to Oakland, south to San Jose and then back north to San Francisco via Caltrain just got a little closer to reality.
