What’s Halloween in Vancouver without the proverbial rain? If anything, it’s awesome. The mist only adds to the irksome evening, making it all the scarier outside. Every year, rain or more rain, the tricks and treats are out in full force. Here’s what you should check out this year, if you haven’t already.

“EVIL DEAD: The Musical” has created quite the buzz this year in Vancouver. The notorious show has heralded all the blood, guts, gore, laughter and all the makings of the Rocky Horror Picture Show. Based on Sam Raimi’s cult movie series (Evil Dead, Evil Dead 2: Dead by Dawn and Army of Darkness) the show follows the terrors that happen after five college students pull a stupid and break into a cabin in the woods.
Interested audiences take note. There is a “Splatter Zone” in effect whereby you will be sprayed in college student blood if you sit near the stage. If this sounds like fun, request the “Splatter Zone” upon ticket purchase.
EVIL DEAD has been extended to November 14. For more details, and tickets to the show, visit www.ticketmaster.ca.

Fright Nights at the Pacific National Exhibition (PNE) is even scarier than last year. Four, brand new, haunted houses have been added to the lineup of creepy rides, games, mazes, houses and people. Brush up on this history of execution as featured on The History Channel or spend time running from the wolverine man with a chainsaw.
The Nights run October 16 to the 31 from 6 p.m. to late. Tickets can be purchased online or at the entrance gate. However, the Nights are selling out fast this year so book online to bypass the line www.pne.ca/fright-nights/.

In many cultures, the end of October and beginning of November is a time for honouring the dead through cleaning and decorating graves, prayers, music and feasts. Until November 2, Mountain View Cemetery's Night for All Souls brings artists and neighbours together to commemorate the dead in casual evening gatherings of reflection and artistic delight, 7 to 9 p.m. Flowers and candles will be available at the cemetery. Visit www.vancouver.ca/allsouls/  for more details.

The infamous Stanley Park Halloween Ghost Train is back until November 1 with scary pirates, ghosts, skeletons and sword fights. Volunteers lurk in the bushes beside the Ghost Train rails to haunt, scare and spook visitors.
A night for family festivities that include free pirate hat making, face painting and the Stanley Park Haunted Children's Farmyard. The Stanley Park Ecological Society hosts its tour of night prowlers in Creatures of the Night Walks on Thursdays and Saturdays www.stanleyparkecology.ca/.
Ghost Train tickets through Ticketmaster, 604-280-4444 or www.ticketmaster.ca up until noon on the day you wish to ride. Same-day tickets only available at the ticket booth in the Train Plaza in Stanley Park from 3 p.m. Rides go nightly from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m.

Looking to meet that special someone this Halloween? The Singles Halloween Haunted Ghost Tour could make that creepy moment all the better. Take a tour of the haunted building district of historic Gastown with friends or on your own. Hear bone-chilling stories of the infamous Gassy Jack, the Great Fire, Blood Alley and the Gaoler's Mews. Spook yourself or your neighbours with ghastly stories of over twenty-five out of the ordinary tales and ghost encounters; perfect for those who enjoy the paranormal. Share spirits and your own scary stories with the group after. Meet at Waterfront Station in front of the fallen solider statue on October 31 at 7:30 p.m. Please visit www.meetmarketadventures.com/singles-in-vancouver.

Check out the Vancouver Haunted Trolley Tour and hear about Vancouver's darkest murders and ghost stories. The tour begins in the Vancouver Museum's haunted gallery, makes its way to Mountain View Cemetery and then the old city morgue, where you'll learn how autopsies are performed. Suitable for ages 13 and older.
Tours leave between 6 p.m. and 9:40 p.m. from the Vancouver Museum. There is a 7 p.m. and 9 p.m. tour nightly with additional times based on demand. The tours run October 17 to November 1. For more information, call 604-734-7368 or visit www.vanmuseum.bc.ca.

Burnaby Village Museum's Haunted Burnaby Trolley Tour starts at Metropolis at Metrotown and ends at the Burnaby Village Museum. The ride takes you past haunted sites and spooky cemeteries. Prepare to be irked at the tours end where participants will learn about haunted buildings, the areas history and other unexplained happenings.
The tours run nightly from October 23 to November 2, 8 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. Cost: $21, pre-register at 604-293-6500 or visit www.burnabyvillagemuseum.ca/ for details.

Visit a local Pumpkin Patch this year. Still haven’t found the right pumpkin? Search through fields of pumpkins, catch a hayride tour, get lost through a corn maze and explore the interactive petting farm.
