I'll be taking a short break from the charter school world and talking about the bill going through Congress to give D.C. a voting representative on NPR's News and Notes program at 1 p.m. today. While I live in the nation's capital and am all for having our own voice in the House I find the current legislation unconstitutional. That's because our founding document only allows states to have Senators and Congressman and D.C. is not a state.
But you don't have to take it from me. Here's the Cato Institute's Ilya Shapiro reaching the same conclusion. Please listen in if you have a chance. The segment will only last about six minutes. If you cannot hear it live the audio will be posted on the show's website later in the afternoon.
In addition you may have seen my post yesterday on Democrat's attempt to kill D.C.'s voucher program. The Wall Street Journal is equally incensed.
