Listen, I know. It's "Idol". Even if you are no fan of the show, you have to watch this clip as it may just be the moment when, let's say it together . . . Idol jumped the shark. The contestants sang two songs last night. There was round one, then round two.
After round one, Paula Abdul was supposed to critique the first performance of each contestant but rather she let fly with "Jason, your FIRST song was a purple. . . cat. . . slurpee. . . but your SECOND song brought unity to the heart of America's middle eastern turkey division!" (Okay, that's my interpretation.)
The interesting thing is that she essentially gave away what has been suspected for quite some time: Idol is scripted. The judges are given their opinions by the producers in an attempt to sway voters to keep the contestants most likely to make the most money for the most honchos involved with Idol.
Watch how quickly Simon Cowell cuts Paula off and moves on. You'd think he's used to working press events for the Bush administration the way he handles this MAJOR embarrassment.
