Health care bill dead on arrival in the Senate?

Pelosi gloats over the passage of H.R. 3962 with fellow democrats
Despite the democrats' exultation over their victory on Saturday, when the health care bill passed in the House of Representatives by a narrow margin of 220-215, they may have celebrated too soon. According to Senator Lindsey Graham of South Carolina, "The House bill is dead on arrival in the Senate." Democrats have yet to challenge this assessment. Senate Majority Leader, Harry Reid, has not yet scheduled a floor debate for the bill, and hinted that the Senate may not finish up health care this year. For the Senate, the problem lies with the public option. The idea that private insurers must compete with the government does not sit well with them. Democrats may be forced to accept a plan without the public plan in order to keep the legislation alive.
Conservatives should not celebrate too soon, however, for a variety of reasons. Other bills exist which contain abortion funding. If one of the other bills is selected, the abortion battle will begin anew, despite the House vote that passed the Stupak-Pitts amendment for H.R. 3962. The Stupak-Pitts amendment would bar taxpayer dollars from funding abortion except in cases of rape or incest. For some conservatives, the passing of this amendment is a relief. For others, the funding of even abortions for rape or incest is morally offensive.
Another reason to remain cautious is the recent House battle over the health care bill. Although the issue looked, at times, to be in favor of being voted down, the democrats managed to obtain the necessary votes to pass the monstrosity through political manipulation. Far left democrats solved their problems by using the life issue against republicans and the 41 democrats who signed a letter stating that they would not support the bill if it included abortion, by allowing the Stupak-Pitts amendment to come to the floor of the House for debate. Conveniently enough, the amendment was voted upon before H.R. 3962 was voted upon. With the passage of the Stupak-PItts amendment, the once-opposed 41 democrats now had license to vote in favor of H.R. 3962, for their reasons for opposition of it had neatly been removed. Far left democrats are sure to apply the same political manipulation to the Senate.
Americans must contact their Senators and express their outrage over the passage H.R. 3962. United States Senators must not be allowed to waver in their opposition to any form of the option. They must not be allowed to sell out the American people as members of the House did. Citizens must send a constant barrage of phone calls, letters, and email to the Senators to make it clear that any compromise with the public option, or the passage of a bill with the public option in it, will cost them their jobs. Americans must not let up, nor stop, until any form of government run health care is killed for good.
