The Harry Ransom Center presents a Music from the Collections event with University of Texas at Austin Professor Robert Freeman. "Can You Tell a Joke with Music?" explores works by Emmanuel Chabrier, Claude Debussy, Joseph Haydn, and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. This witty and intriguing program will be on Thursday, October 29, at 7 p.m. at Jessen Auditorium on The University of Texas campus.

Professor Freeman examines the connection between humor, words, and music, exploring the relationship between text and music in the context of audience response. Freeman explores Chabrier's "Souvenirs de Munich," Debussy's "Golliwog's Cakewalk," Haydn's "The Joke Quartet," and Mozart's "A Musical Joke."

Professor Freeman will be accompanied by Michael Schneider, a distinguished pianist and a Doctor of Musical Arts candidate in the University's Butler School of Music, for the performance of the Chabrier piece.

Seating is free, but limited.
