Bill Cosby, a man who needs no introduction, has recently compiled a new Hip Hop album called Bill Cosby Presents: State of Emergency. The album, which is slated for release on November 24th, is an effort by the actor/comedian to reach the youth and profess the problems that plague modern Hip Hop culture and its effect on the black community. Cosby himself has always been known to critique the modern African American youth and claims that it is headed in a downward spiral. This album seems to be his latest effort to get his point across. However, this apparently does not sit well for some within the Hip Hop community as Russell Simmons has recently spoken out against Cosby on this matter.

Although Simmons made it clear that he has a great deal of respect for Cosby, he also critqued his efforts as being more destructive than constructive. Simmons states that "What they don't understand is that the young people who they criticize did not create their own realities.". His argument is that Cosby is someone who is constantly blaming the youth instead of trying to encourage and ameliorate them.

However, some of the rappers that are featured on Cosby's album have spoken out against Simmons' arguments. One rapper, Jace The Great, made a statment in defense of cosby stating “He is working from an intergenerational standpoint not only by involving us emcees who come from the Hip-Hop generation and lifestyle but he also spoke openly to the elder generation about their involvement and accountability...”.

Another rapper on the album, Supa Nova Slom, stated also that “It is all of our jobs to play a role in creating a collective movement. People need to be inspired and empowered again to get involved just as we got involved during the Civil Rights and Black Power Movements...his CD hopefully will inspire not only conversations, but also actions, programs, and raised self-esteem.".

Bill Cosby's State of Emergency will be released November 24th.
